Specialist Sewing Machinist Apprenticeship

Are you looking to start a career in Marine Industry?

If so, we may have the perfect opportunity for you.

Tecsew Limited is a forward-thinking boat cover company based in Lee-on-Solent and we are currently looking for a Specialist Sewing Machinist Apprentice to join our busy team.

This is an apprenticeship position and, as such, you will be working towards a Level 2/3 NVQ. You will be under Fareham College and unlike other apprenticeships, training will be conducted all in-house at our new modern purpose-built factory. You will work full time in the business and will be visited by an assessor from the College to check your progress. If you work hard, show a keen desire and aptitude and establish yourself at Tecsew then there will be a full-time position on offer after successfully completing the apprenticeship.

During your apprenticeship you will study all aspect of the production side of the business in detail. This valuable experience may well act as a springboard for a career within the company.

What will you be learning?

• How to use different types of industrial sewing machine
• How to read work orders to go with every job
• Different skills on how to put together various type of boat covers or industrial covers and machining them together in the correct manner
• Acquiring specific skills in terms of putting the items together for example how to put windows onto a cover or how to put cut-outs etc
• Adding zips
• Adding pockets
• Different types of constructions depending on the cover
• How to do repairs on existing covers brought in by customer
• Take notes whilst learning new skills and how to refer to them

• Ability to work as a team
• Ability to take clear, precise and legible notes
• Ability to work quickly and well under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of quality

Desired qualifications:

GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths (equivalent to grade C under the old system)

Future prospects:

Excellent future prospects for the right candidate depending on attitude and performance during this apprenticeship.

Things to consider:

Being able to drive with your own transport would be a distinct advantage as we do not yet have links to public transport direct to the factory. If you will be using public transport then you would need to ensure you are able to arrive at work on time each day.
