Adding a Roll-Up Centre Window is a very popular addition to a Sprayhood and in doing so you’ll see improvements in practicality, performance and comfort. A Roll-Up Centre Window brings about two main benefits, which we’ve outlined below:
Firstly, in adverse weather conditions, window materials do not offer the best of visibility with salt residue and rain affecting their clarity. You would not drive a car with the wipers not working, even though the screen is glass and optically clear.
On certain boats – especially newer twin helm models – forward visibility tends to be achieved more by looking around the Sprayhood. However, with single helm, it is often the case that the helmsman needs to look through the Sprayhood windows.
So, although it may seem odd to roll up the centre window when it’s raining, with the hatch closed, it’s a better option than having to fold the Sprayhood down.
Secondly, it adds to ventilation in the Cockpit and helps to cool down below with an open hatch, especially when the breeze is coming from forward. This is more important when a Cockpit Enclosure or Bimini Conversion is fitted. When an enclosure is fitted, a Roll Up Centre Window is a very convenient way of adding ventilation without having to roll up a whole side or rear door panel.
