3D at its best!

In April, we were approached by a customer up in Largs Scotland regarding us making a Cockpit Enclosure for an SO409 he was purchasing from a Jeanneau brokerage in Scotland. The boat was due for delivery at the end of July 2013. Mr and Mrs James obviously knew what they wanted having browsed on our gallery at www.tecsew.com.

It so happened that we have already produced a Cockpit Enclosure to suit a Jeanneau supplied Sprayhood. However, Mr Rick James did not want a straight forward Cockpit Enclosure off the machine! He told me he wanted the following modifications to suit his requirements as the end user.

The modifications include:

–          Additional rear quarter windows

–          Split frame for easy removal

–          Zip out panels both sides and centre rear

In the old days, before 3D CAD, we would struggle to draw up the specific modifications requested by the customer especially when the actual boat is up in Scotland! However, we have the technology to do this in-house and were able to send the revised designs to Mr and Mrs James for approval.

These images above are modified using the existing drawings we have of the standard SO409 Cockpit Enclosure. Having approved the design, we went ahead and produced the Cockpit Enclosure in Sunbrella Plus Taupe to match the existing Sprayhood. As soon as Mr James took ownership of the yacht at the end of July, he sent his Sprayhood canvas to us to put the zip attachment and we turned it around in the same week so he could fit the Cockpit Enclosure at the weekend.

Rick and Margo have kindly sent us some pictures of the Cockpit Enclosure they have fitted to new brand new SO409 “TOPAZ” which we have designed and manufactured, but it was fitted by them up in Scotland.
