Moody S31 Sprayhood Replacement

When it comes to replacing a boat’s Sprayhood, there are a number of things we have to take into account before we commence work on designing, selecting the materials and going to production. We have built this case study to give you detailed information, and provide you with an insight into what is involved in the whole process. Our customers usually like to know in advance about what exactly is involved in the build itself.

New Sprayhood Canvas

In this instance the product we produced was the Sprayhood canvas for a Moody S31 which utilised the existing framework. Firstly we added the welded grab bar onto the Sprayhood’s framework and to do this successfully we had to adapt the existing Sprayhood frameworks and make the most of what we had available to work with.

In addition to this we were also asked to design and manufacture a new Moody S31 Cockpit Enclosure complete with new framework, a new Stackpack, a pair of Dodgers with the unique name sewn on, and a Wheel and Pedestal Cover.

We were slightly restricted in terms of design as we had to work according to the old frameworks structure which determined the shape and size of the new Cockpit Enclosure. Because of the shape of the old framework we decided in order to achieve an accurate build that we would use computer aided design. The customer was given the opportunity to have his new Cockpit Enclosure designed in 3D and so the customer was involved in the design himself. We gathered all the necessary data and entered it into the programme which ended in the customers boat product being produced to a finite standard.

Lead time for a boat cover

In regards to this order, we received the order on 25th March 2013 and the Moody S31 sprayhood was taken to the Harbour Cruising Club in Portsmouth and installed onto the customer’s Moody S31 boat. Depending on the customisation the time it usually takes from order to delivery is four weeks, however this can vary depending on the time of year.
